Speaker Bio:

Dr. Barbara Guy is recently retired from the Iowa Department of Education where she served in multiple capacities over 27 years, including division administrator, state director of special education and transition consultant. She received her Ph.D. in special education from the University of Kansas and was in the first cohort of special education teachers after the passage of Public Law 94-142. She is the oldest sibling of a sister with Down Syndrome.

Join Dr. Barbara Guy as she shares valuable lessons learned through her journey as the sibling of a person with a disability and as an education/special education professional.  Dr. Guy will discuss useful ideas for setting and achieving  high expectations for living, learning, and working in the community, including successful and not-so-successful strategies.

By the end of this keynote speech, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize at least one effective strategy for setting high expectations.
2. Apply at least one approach to stay motivated and achieve their goals.
3. Utilize at least one technique to navigate challenges during difficult moments.
